Like jamming out to your I Pod? This groundbreaking research may help reduce anxiety naturally.
Scientists are always coming up with something new when it comes to anxiety management. And the latest craze is rooted in a song that was designed to reduce anxiety naturally.
According to Inc., researchers in the UK have found that a song called “Weightless” topped the list of tunes tested in regards to anxiety management. In fact, the calming tune reduced anxiety by 65 percent.
Even more interesting, Marconi Union developed the song with anxiety management in mind. This is huge when it comes to ways to naturally reduce anxiety.
In fact, sound therapists designed the song to bring both blood pressure and heart rates down. In addition, the reduction of cortisol levels was taken into account.
(Remember that cortisol is the fight or flight hormone that ramps us up.)
Inc. reports that “Weightless” is so powerful that it promotes a sedative effect. According to Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, “‘Weightless’ was so effective, many women became drowsy and I would advise against driving while listening to the song because it could be dangerous.”
(Sidenote: Dr. Lewis-Hodgson is the chairman of Mindlab, a UK-based company that conducted the study.)
So just what did this study involve?
Study subjects were monitored while attempting to solve complex puzzles. In other words, the puzzles were meant to cause stress.
Simultaneously, participants listened to songs. Monitors delivered information about blood pressure and heart rate readings, as well as breathing rates.
Along with decreased rates of anxiety, subjects showed “a 35 percent reduction in their usual physiological resting rates,” as reported by Inc.
So go ahead, give “Weightless” a listen. And let us know if you feel that “aaaaah.” We’re always looking for feedback on ways to naturally reduce anxiety. (Remember to sign up for our newsletter below to stay up to date on exactly what we find.)
